The Best Seat at the Bar

Sometimes the best tequila tastings don’t happen at a formal event.

They happen in a barstool conversation.

That’s exactly what happened when we stopped into 23 Court and ended up having one of the most memorable tequila tastings we’ve ever experienced.

Why We Love to Sit at the Bar

Whenever we go somewhere new, we try to sit at the bar.

Not because it’s easier — because it’s where the experience lives.

Sitting at the bar opens the door to conversation. We talk with the bartenders. We meet other guests. Stories get shared. Sometimes people ask why we like tequila so much, and before long we’re swapping recommendations and learning a little about each other.

That night, one of those conversations turned into something special.

Our bartender, Justin, was incredibly knowledgeable about tequila.

What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into an impromptu tasting flight. Justin put together several tequilas we had never tried before and walked us through each one, sharing details about the brands, the families behind them, and even the barrels used in the aging process.

For tequila lovers, that kind of experience is the best surprise you can ask for.

The Tequilas We Tried

The flight included several pours that were completely new to us:

  • Rey Sol

  • Corazón expressions finished in whiskey barrels

  • Reserva de la Familia

One of the biggest surprises of the night was the Corazón expressions. The whiskey barrel finishes created flavors we didn’t expect and really stood out in the tasting.

The Reserva de la Familia also sparked an interesting conversation. Many people associate the Cuervo name only with Jose Cuervo, but this line is actually a special project from the Cuervo family that showcases a completely different side of their tequila.

More Than Just The Tequila

The tequila was great, but the atmosphere played a big role in the experience too.

23 Court has a beautiful bar with warm lighting and an impressive selection of spirits. Their shelves are packed with whiskey, bourbon, vodka, tequila, and plenty more.

There’s also an upstairs area with music, and the bar doubles as a cigar lounge. We’re not cigar smokers (at least not yet), but the overall vibe made the place feel relaxed and welcoming.

And like many good nights at the bar, we ended up meeting interesting people and sharing stories along the way.

What made this tasting memorable wasn’t just the tequila.

It was the conversation.
The curiosity.
The chance to try something new.

A great bartender can turn a simple drink order into an experience, and sometimes even into a discovery.

That’s exactly what happened that night.

We had heard about 23 Court several times before, and we had even stopped by briefly once. But this was the first time we really sat down and experienced the bar.

It definitely won’t be the last.

Between the atmosphere, the incredible selection, and a bartender who truly understands tequila, it turned into one of the best tastings we’ve had in a long time.

And it all started with choosing the best seat in the house.

The bar.
