Mindful Drinking for a Healthier Lifestyle

We didn’t switch to tequila because it was trendy.
We switched because it worked.

Worked with our workouts.
Worked with our routines.
Worked with how we wanted to feel the next day.

The secret wasn’t finding a magic bottle.
It was changing how we drank tequila.

Rule #1: Measure Your Pour

Let’s start with the most unglamorous rule — and the most important one.

We measure every pour.

Not because we’re restrictive.
Because eyeballing is how we got here.

A measured pour (1–1.5 oz) does a few things immediately:

  • It slows you down

  • It keeps pours consistent

  • It turns one drink into an experience instead of a habit

And here’s the thing no one talks about:

One good pour beats three bad ones.

Every single time.

Rule #2: Brown Tequila Only

Reposado.
Añejo.
Extra añejo.

Brown tequila changed everything for us.

Aged tequila is easier to sip, easier to enjoy slowly, and easier to appreciate. It doesn’t beg for sugar or disguise itself as something else. It’s meant to be tasted — not chased.

If tequila ever felt harsh, chaotic, or like something you needed to “get through,” this is usually why.

You don’t hate tequila.
You hate bad tequila.

Rule #3: No Sugar. No Shortcuts.

This is where tequila earns its place in a healthy lifestyle.

We don’t add:

  • Syrups

  • Juices

  • Sweet mixers

What we do use:

  • Ice in a tall glass

  • Club soda or sparkling water

  • Lime wedge

That’s it.

When you take sugar out of the equation, tequila stops feeling like a roller coaster. No spikes. No crash. No “why did I do that?”

Rule #4: Ice, Glassware, and Pace Matter

Tequila deserves better than a plastic cup and a rushed moment.

We use:

  • Proper glassware

  • Large ice forms

  • A seat at the table

Drinking standing at the counter while scrolling doesn’t count.
This isn’t about rules — it’s about presence.

Tequila slows you down if you let it.

Rule #5: Alcohol Comes After Movement

This one surprises people, but it’s non-negotiable for us.

Tequila comes after movement — not before.

Workout first.
Walk first.
Protein first.
Hydration first.

Then tequila.

It shifts tequila from habit to reward — and that makes all the difference.

Pairs well with protein.

Why We Switched to Tequila (From Everything Else)

We didn’t start out as tequila-only people. Like most adults, we drank a mix of things — wine, beer, cocktails — depending on the setting. But once we were serious about our fitness goals, we started paying attention to how different drinks actually made us feel.

Wine came with sugar. Beer came with calories. Cocktails came with both.

And all of it added up faster than we realized. When we learned that tequila is made from agave, naturally low in calories, and contains no added sugar, it clicked. Especially when it’s enjoyed without mixers and in measured pours.

So we made a decision:
If we were going to drink alcohol, it needed to fit our lifestyle, not work against it.
That’s when we moved away from everything else and started drinking strictly brown tequila.

Aged tequila checked every box:

  • Lower calorie than wine and beer

  • No sugar when consumed straight or with simple ingredients

  • Easy to sip slowly

  • Easier to control portions

  • Easier to enjoy intentionally

Once we made the switch, there was no reason to go back.

Tequila stopped feeling like a compromise and started feeling like the smartest choice.

This Isn’t About Rules

It’s about confidence.

Confidence in choosing an alcohol that actually fits your lifestyle.
Confidence in knowing what’s in your glass.
Confidence in drinking in a way that doesn’t undo your goals.

We didn’t give things up.
We upgraded.

Curious Where to Start?

Start simple:

  • One measured pour

  • Aged tequila

  • No sugar

  • Big ice

  • Slow sip

That’s it. You don’t need to quit drinking. You don’t need a full bar reset. You just need an alcohol that works with your life — and a better way to enjoy it.
